“Wuqoof-e-Zamani” implies that a seeker should introspect and review themselves. After every hour, one should reflect to see if the past time was spent in the remembrance of Allah. If it was, then give thanks; if it was spent in negligence, then repent and make a firm intention to avoid such negligence in the future, never stepping beyond the bounds set by the Shariah. This concept aligns with the divine command: “Let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow” which points towards this practice.
This is also supported by the saying of Sayyidna Amir al-Mu’minin, Hazrat Umar (R.A.), who advised, “Account yourselves before you are accounted, and weigh your deeds before they are weighed for you, and prepare yourselves for the greatest exposition,” referring to the Day of Judgement when every individual’s actions will be accounted for and weighed.
