Hosh Dar Dam

Hosh Dar Dam

“Hosh Dar Dam” means being aware of every breath, ensuring it is spent in remembrance of Allah and not in negligence. It’s about making an effort to ensure that not even a single breath passes in forgetfulness of Allah. Therefore, one should reflect after every moment to achieve constant presence and awareness. If negligence is found upon reflection, one should seek forgiveness and make a firm intention to avoid it in the future, valuing every breath and staying aligned with it, ensuring no breath is wasted aimlessly.

“The foundation of this path lies in the breath. Neither while inhaling nor exhaling should it be lost in negligence. Each breath should be with the presence of heart.”

Hazrat Khwaja Bahauddin Naqshband, may Allah sanctify his secret,

Regarding Hazrat Shah Naqshband’s, may Allah sanctify his secret, personal practice and how he preserved his breath, Hazrat Mawlana Abdur Rahman Jami, may Allah sanctify his secret, mentions in Tuhfat al-Ahrar that he rarely took a breath without presence and contemplation. He did not let his gaze wander beyond his steps, swiftly embarked on the journey ahead, and his step did not halt but rather, he attained Divine proximity.
