“Baazgasht” means returning or reverting, and it implies that after a period of remembrance (Dhikr), the seeker should supplicate in the Divine Presence, saying with utmost humility and sincerity:
“O Lord, You are my aim and Your pleasure is my goal. Grant me Your love and knowledge.”
These words should be uttered silently within the heart, filled with humility, so that the seeker does not become arrogant over the bliss or light attained through Dhikr and reflection, and instead remains focused on seeking the love and pleasure of Allah.
Maulana Rumi (may Allah’s mercy be upon him) says:
“Dear brother, this is a boundless court; wherever you reach, do not just stand there but keep moving forward.”
Hazrat Shah Waliullah Dehlawi (may Allah’s mercy be upon him) mentions that he heard from his father and guide, “Returning (in Dhikr) is a great condition; it is not fitting for the seeker to neglect this. Whatever we have attained has been through the blessings of this practice.”
