Spiritual Sweetness Is Not Essential

Spiritual Sweetness Is Not Essential

Spiritual Sweetness Is Not Essential
Addressed to: Khwājah Muḥammad Ashraf and Ḥājjī Muḥammad Farkatī (may Allah have mercy on them both)

نَحْمَدُهُ وَنُصَلِّي عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ الْكَرِيمِ

In this noble letter:
Mawlānā Ḥājjī Muḥammad had expressed that for nearly two months, his engagement in remembrance (dhikr), reflection (fikr), and prescribed litanies (awrād wa wadhāʾif) had been disturbed, and the previous sense of sweetness and spiritual pleasure was no longer present.

O my friend! If no disturbance has occurred in the following two matters, then there is nothing to worry about:

  1. Obedience to the Prophet of Mercy ﷺ, the bearer of Sharīʿah
  2. Love and sincerity toward your Shaykh

As long as these two remain intact, then even if thousands of spiritual darknesses and confusions arise, there is no real danger. Ultimately, such a person will not be left to perish.

But if, God forbid, either of these two becomes deficient, then everything falls into disorder — even if one feels inward calm and spiritual presence (jamʿiyyat wa ḥuḍūr), it would then be mere delusion (istidrāj), leading to ruin in the end.

True spiritual perfection does not lie in internal stillness alone — unless it is accompanied by following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ and sincere love for the Shaykh.

Therefore, with humility and brokenness, plead before Allah Most High for these two treasures and beg for steadfastness upon them. For these two are the true objective, and salvation depends on them.

Convey salām to all the brothers in Islam, especially our old friend Mawlānā ʿAbd al-Ghafūr Samarqandī.
